Active Retirement Group
Ballyduff Active Retirement Group was founded in 2001, over 20 years ago, and since the opening of Bud’s Ballyduff Family Resource Centre, we have enjoyed the superb facilities available. Part of a nationwide organisation, Active Retirement Ireland, the group aims to enable older people to remain active in the community, to retain their self –esteem and confidence, and to continue to be aware of current issues and facilities available to them. This is achieved through a programme of physical, social, and educational activities, as well as talks, and demonstrations.
With about thirty, all very active, members, the group enables older people to meet together, pass on news, have fun, and learn about new developments. Likewise, exercise routines, day-trips, art, music, the use of information technology, and social media, together with visiting speakers, all play a part in their varied and interesting programme. Members have benefitted from training in the computer suite made available to the A.R.G.
Meetings begin with discussion and planning. This is followed by a break for refreshments. The afternoon concludes with a Health and well-being subject, or an introduction to a topic of interest, or a game, including, of course, the occasional Bingo. The large well-lit meeting room, which is well equipped for audio-visual presentations, the comfortable seating, and the friendly café-service, all contribute immeasurably to the happiness and enjoyment of those involved, as does the full support that the group receives from the management and staff of the Family Resource Centre.
